Spreadshirt is close to a full launch their new digital direct print technology. They have been testing the technology in partner stores for months now (see our post in nov 07) and it is almost ready for a full launch. The new printing method will replace their Digital Transfer printing. Spreadshirt partners will not need to make any changes to their accounts as the old digital transfer products will automatically switch to the digital direct. However, because the DPI requirements are different older images may appear smaller because Digital Transfer only required 120 DPI but Digital Direct uses 200 DPI. The change in print technology will also result in decreased prices on colored shirts and increased pricing on white t-shirts.
Along with the change in print technology Spreadshirt expanded their colors of t-shirts available for direct printing. These light colored t-shirts are said to give a “retro appearance” because the shirt color through the print unlike plot printing.
Here are some samples of the difference in print on white and light colored shirts for direct print.
