A few weeks ago created a “How to get a free t-shirt from VistaPrint video” and at that time we created a shirt and purchased it. Well, the day has finally arrived to review the shirt (and process).
Vista Print Free T-shirt Timeline:
-Product Ordered – 9/10/2007
-Product Shipped – 9/17/07
-Received the T-shirt – 9/26/07
-Time from order to my door: 16+ days (a LONG time but faster than the expected 21 days based on my chosen shipping method)
My Vista Print T-shirt has arrived!
Well, I just realized why it took so long to get here! It came from Ontario Canada. AND, Apparently the postman didn’t see the text on my package that said “Time Sensitive” you would think it would have gotten here faster. .
Inside the package wrapped in plastic was my free vistaprint t-shirt (plus shipping costs of course!). It was a Hanes heavyweight white t-shirt, a pamphlet with all the standard Vistaprint products like business cards and fancy checks.
One thing that was a very pleasant surprise was the sticker that was on the actual t-shirt under the plastic. The sticker states "Take 25% off your next purchase. Save big on business cards, postcards and more with a link to VistaPrint.com/[urlremoved]". However it doesn’t say anything else! It does thank me for my t-shirt purchase which makes me feel warm and fuzzy but what are the conditions of the 25% off coupon. This is no little coupon. 25% is a huge coupon especially if it has no restrictions. Basically, if you spend the $4something on a FREE t-shirt you can get a 25% off coupon. It is clear that their goals of the t-shirt deal are customer acquisition. So I called VistaPrint to solve this coupon mystery and if you visit the link on the sticker it will trigger a price change on many of the products throughout the VistaPrint web site. So I visited the VistaPrint t-shirt page via the link on my sticker (its a generic link but I am sorry but its not fair to post it here) and all the prices changed for the t-shirts. All the prices you see normally go to red and drop 25% for both single and bulk t-shirts. I have to say it felt good to see prices drop like that.
On to the shirt…
The shirt was a Hanes Heavyweight white t-shirt..not much really to say about that but if you saw our free vistaprint t-shirt video it will explain why I bought a Save the Earth t-shirt. In short, there weren’t many decent options for templates for the free t-shirt so I made a save the earth one. The printing was Direct-to-Garmet (DTG) and was surprisingly of very good quality. The colors were vibrant but I have not done a wash test yet. You can check out a close up of the design below.
and here is a close up of the actual printing. As you can see there is nothing wrong with this DTG print job.
The printing really was pretty good and their prices really are reasonable (no I am not talking about the free t-shirt price). Based on the sample I received I would consider placing future orders with VistaPrint. However, it is an issue they are in Canada because the shipping time is just too long at what would be considered standard shipping rates. There aren’t many occassions that I would want to wait over two weeks for a t-shirt to arrive. BUT, I guess if they had the best price, and their quality was good there may be a day that making an order to VistaPrint might happen. The way to customize t-shirts at VistaPrint is definitely geared towards people who may not have any creativeness but just want to use templates to create t-shirts for their business or next event. This is not bad but its just a different audience than other companies that let users customize t-shirts.
